Big Things

There are big things happening at the Hatcher Home. First, we have Kayden who is 100% potty trained! As you might remember from an earlier post, we were potty training right around the time that I had Kloey. She was so great about using her potty to go #1, but #2 was a different story. Not only did she not use her potty chair, but she didn’t go at all! This resulted in discomfort for Kayden and Mommy! With a new baby, I was more than happy to abort the potty ‘training’ for the time being! Well, in the past week Kayden has decided that she is actually fine with going #2 in her potty! Thanks to my trusty iPhone timer set at 1 hr., we have had less than a handful of accidents in the past 2 weeks. And, I have to admit, that a majority of the accidents are parent-errors – i.e. not reminding her to go, ignoring the trusty timer, or falling victim to having a play date that’s far more fun than stopping to use the potty! While this is such exciting news, can I just tell you how much harder this has made running errands?! There must be something about the grocery store because in the past two trips we have gone to the bathroom MULTIPLE times each visit. When your potty training two year old tells you that she needs to poop, you high tail it to the nearest bathroom – which, let’s be honest, is never ‘near’ the isle you are down. So you run to the bathroom, unhitch the carseat with your second child, pull out your diaper bag from the bottom of the cart (someone might just want to steal a diaper or the hooter hider.. you never know!), and abandon your cart (blocking the door to the storage area of course!). Then, you can imagine as the sweat drips from my forehead how frustrated this mother is when she hears her two year old proudly proclaim, “I just tried, mommy!!”. So we load back up and go back to isle 2 where we were perusing when the spirit moved my child! Then we rinse and repeat around isle 6. Grocery shopping now takes longer and I forget more!! But, I am proud to say we have not had any accidents out in public!

Next, Kloey is eating solids!! Right around 4 months I introduced rice cereal, but Kloey could not have been less interested. This was more than fine with me! So I put the spoon down and waited about a month to try again. This time I added some pureed raisins (yuk!!) and Kloey was thrilled to eat!! She has had raisins and mashed bananas in baby oatmeal each morning. I find that giving her a morning feeding works best because after she eats she’ll take a 2-3 hour nap, which allows me to clean up, shower, and give Kayden the much needed 1-on-1 time she so craves!!
