This afternoon I get a call while I am teaching. The nurse in the front office tells me that she needs me to come up and pick something up when I get a chance. Naturally, my mind wanders and I think ‘Oh great, I’m getting a pink slip!” Why my mind went there, who knows!? The nurse assures me that it is something I will like. With a crinkled brow, I go up to the office at lunch time. I walk in to see the cute little bouquet of flowers. Instantly I am confused because I know my husband is away on a deserted island with no phones and minimal Internet connection at best. Again, my mind goes off course and I think “Wow, I must have really impressed Russ at dinner last night!” So I open the card and see that my dear husband has managed to get flowers sent to me at school (love it!) from somewhere out in the Pacific. All the ladies in the office and teachers in the lunchroom were very jealous of my awesome husband!

Now for the funny part of it! Last night I was checking BofA and noticed that there was a somewhat large withdrawal made. Not large really, but more unexpected than anything. I instantly think that Scotty has had a fun night with the boys at the local bar. Yes, there is just one establishment and it is a bar! I email Scotty immediately to check on this because if it isn’t Scotty that made the debit then I need to investigate the matter immediately. As I am emailing him to say thank you for the flowers, I realize that this is the withdrawal he made the day before. Oops! Love My Husband!

Today’s blog is about my first dinner date with my dad-in-law (D.I.L.). Now, it needs to be recognized that this was our first solo dinner. The conversation was lively and I think we both had a great time! We went to El Torito, so needless to say, tonight I took a night off of ‘being good.’ You just can’t go to El Torito without getting a margarita! We both decided to forego the chicken/steak fajita salad and go for the taco and cheese enchilada meal (me) and some kind of carnitas plate (Russ). Food for the sole! It was a good meal and even better conversation, thanks Russ!!

I think it is relatively well known that I like to eat. Well, since Scotty is on test I am having to learn how to cook for one. I refuse to do microwavable dinners! That is all well and good for lunch (and sometimes breakfast!), but I like to eat a real dinner. Tonight, it was spaghetti with meat sauce. I made my own meat sauce- no Martha Stewart- but the point is that I didn’t buy the sauce with meat in it! A slice of garlic bread and a fresh cookie (okay 2!) later, I am feeling satisfied! I went to the grocery store on Sunday, as I always do, and I noticed that I certainly buy different foods when Scotty is away. Never would he let me buy generic lunch meat (rather than the $10/lb. deli meat) or bag of chicken in the frozen food section. I also indulged with frozen burritos and miniature cokes! So needless to say my eating has gone to hell. In order to deal with that I added ten minutes to my cardio workout in the morning. Have I mentioned yet that 4:50 am is looking less and less appealing as the week goes on?

Most people celebrate an unexpected day off, or a three-day weekend, by going somewhere or hanging by the pool. I normally am on board with such celebrations, but today it just means a third day off with less distractions to keep me from remembering that the husband isn’t home. To look on the bright side, however, I was able to iChat with Scotty today! For those not in the know, iChat is a way of talking via video chatting. The Macs come equipped with a built in camera attached just above the screen. I have to say that Scotty, my non-facial hair growing husband had a bit of a ‘stache today! It appeared as if he actually has hair growing on his upper lip and (he swears) on his cheeks. I asked if maybe he forgot his shaver, but I think he likes to ‘let loose’ every once in a while! Anyway, it was great to see him and it sounds like he is doing really well. We haven’t quite hit a week, but it feels like it’s been months!! The neighbors invited me to happy hour this afternoon, so we rode our bikes down to the harbor and got a few drinks and fried food. A nice surprise for us, they offered each of us some champagne and chocolate cake to help celebrate a birthday that was taking place. After a chilly bike ride home I am back catching up on girly TV. Tonight’s agenda: Desperate Housewives and CSI Las Vegas! The DVR is dangerously low on material so I am scrounging for new shows to watch! Also, since finishing my book Twilight, I am on to book #2 in the series: New Moon. Until tomorrow….

OK, I admit it, I do not bathe the dogs as often as I should. First reason: Kooper hates it! Second reason: Idiot laps. Let’s address the first issue. Kooper is a male of little complexity. He pretends to be excited for a bath because he knows he gets a treat after. If only he understood that he gets a treat for far less than being cooperative in the tub! Because he works for a treat, he goes second in the lineup. Jinx, on the complete other hand, loves bath time. This female loves the exfoliating scrub she gets with luke warm water. She gets a far longer bath than her temperamental brother. She could care less than the ‘reward’ of a stale treat at the end! After bath time it never fails- idiot laps!! I don’t know what being wet does to a dog, but the kids act crazy!! I always bathe them in Scotty’s shower for many reasons- sorry babe! One of the reasons is that they can’t hurt anything. Well, yesterday the room was painted and I was a little concerned about them bouncing off walls. So, I brought up the baby gate and closed the bedroom door. For those that don’t know our mansion, that left them about a 2 by 5 ft hallway to work with! They were not happy with this but still managed to wrestle! I decided to rinse the bathtub- don’t worry Scotty, Eldoia will be here again before you come home!- and then bathe myself! I was honestly surprised as to how dirty the kids were. Lesson for the day: don’t wait months between pug baths!!
