I think every parent with small kids has good and bad days. We seem to be having a bad period around here! Kayden, my dear 3 year old, has taught me NOTHING of what it means to have a one-and-a-half year old! Our world is constantly being rocked by Kloey. She is walking now, which is great…. at home! When we are out in the world she wants to walk, but never in the same direction we are going (enter meltdown when redirected)! She will stay seated in a shopping cart IF she is loaded up with treats and water. This lasts for approximately half of a grocery shopping trip (enter embarrasing meltdown). What happens when this occurs, you ask? Case in point – TODAY! Kloey, literally to the isle, half way through my grocery shopping has decided she is “ALLLLL DOOOONE!!!!” Well dear screaming child, I was not done yet!! So what did I do? I held the 20 something pounder as she flailed and arched her back so far that you’d swear she’s without a spine! This vision is coupled with Kloey screaming and me pushing a very full cart into displays because I just couldn’t keep it going straight. Oh, I should also mention that Kayden insisted she sit IN the cart today – something I don’t let her do on days where we need to do a big haul. Today, I was weak. So Kayden is barried beneath a cart full of food and getting more and more uncomfortable as I load her up. So let’s add that up, a cart full of food, a 30+ pound child, and me holding 20+ pounds pushing the damn cart with one hand and a screaming child. The best part is, as I pull up to the cashier all frazzled and whatnot, the man looks at me and says “Hi Ma’am, how’s it going?” Through clenched teeth and a slight smile, I respond, “Well, I’ve been better!” As I’m loading the car and reviewing my list I realize I forfeited about half of my grocery list to maintain my sanity and a peaceful shopping experience for the other customers. So with this venting out of my system, let’s just say that the Hatchers are on public venues lock down. Yesterday we couldn’t even make it through eating lunch at In N Out without Kloey doing her public meltdown.

I know most people are not completely honest about how challenging it can be at times as a parent. I think it is important to have friends that will tell you about their struggles, just so you know you aren’t crazy (or maybe you are, but it’s totally your kids’ fault!). You needs friends that will listen, but also share how their children are challenging as well. You need the wisdom from your parents to know that it does get better. They say it takes a village to raise a child. Well I say, point me in the direction of this village, because I have a one-and-a-half year old I’d like to DROP OFF!! Will it get better, yes. Tomorrow? Probably not! Will I survive? Yes…. I think! Thanks to Steph for venting to me and letting me vent to you as we both are in full swing of the hard times. And to all my other friends who have and will openly share such struggles with me, thanks for reminding me this nonsense is NORMAL. And a big thank you to Kayden for being an easier toddler than Kloey, because otherwise Kloey just might not be here!!. With this all being said, I LOVE my job, but I deserve a raise!

Okay, so I realize it’s been a long time since I have blogged. You know how when the laundry piles up really high and you just don’t know where to start, so you don’t? Yeah, me neither!! But, IF I knew what that feeling was like, I imagine it would feel like getting my blog back up to date! So assuming I haven’t lost all of my loyal blog followers, I’ll try to get us all back up to speed! Let’s get started!

Kayden: Since my last post Kayden has started and quit ballet. Luckily, it was only a month commitment! The reason she has already quit ballet is quite dramatic. On the last class the teacher asked the girls to do a move where they sat on their knees and did some fancy motion with their hands. This, folks, is what set my little ballerina off! She said it hurt her knees so she left class in tears and never looked back! She tells me no more ballet class because she just wants to be at home with me. She will settle for going to MImi’s house and Nam’s house, but she wants to be with just me. Anyone have any idea why I am holding my little wallflower off of preschool for another year?! Love my little BFF!!

Kloey: Since my last post Kloey has started walking for reals this time! Last time I posted about her walking she was taking a handful of steps between furniture and to and from people. She now uses walking as her primary means of getting around the house and in the backyard. She is even starting to run! My little Kloey might have taken her time to walk, but she is definitely very cautious. She doesn’t go too fast and rarely falls down unintentionally. Kloey likes to keep up with Kayden, which let’s be honest, isn’t very hard for her since Kayden is shall we say very cautious herself! Now that Kloey can get around, she is evoking her independence (climbing on chairs, jumping on the bean bag, and getting into EVERYTHING!!) and learning her little sister role (taking things from Kayden, pulling Kayden’s hair, and screaming if Kayden is playing with something she wants). I have often caught Kloey taking things from Kayden, who does NOT fight back. Kayden, like her mother, is a teaser. We don’t like to get our hands dirty so we mess with our younger siblings when no one is looking or within earshot! Fun times ahead!

** Kloey REFUSES to let me take her picture, so most pictures will be blurry as she is constantly trying to look away from the camera!

Scotty & Tiff: Not much new with Scotty and me. Scotty is working a lot and I am just being mommy. I have honestly taken time off of blogging not because I’m lazy or nothing is new, but I am getting back into reading during nap times. I have always loved reading and it is relaxing for me. The girls’ naps overlap, however Kayden naps for about 45 minutes. I take every minute to myself to just chill so that I make it through the rest of the day with all of my hair! I haven also taken a liking to cooking, so I often times prep dinner before the girls wake up- cooking with two busy bodies can be a challenge! So these aren’t great excuses, but they are real!

Here are some pictures of the girls to catch you all up:

Thank you to my AMAZING husband for planning a surprise birthday day for me! Scotty surprised me by taking the day off of work and organizing a limo wine tasting tour for just the two of us! We went to a few favorite spots and found a few new wineries. We had lunch at my FAVORITE winery – Wilson Creek. Since it was a Wednesday, we were given great service! The weather was perfect and we had so much fun! Thanks Mimi for taking such great care of my girls so we could escape and have a great day together! Thank you Scotty for the multiple surprises throughout the whole day. I love you more than anything!!

It’s official. Like Facebook official! Kloey took her first independent steps today!! Yes, this just happened today and I am already blogging about it. I’m so proud!! If this is anything like crawling (it took her a while to get the confidence to try it, but once she did she took off) then she should be running by this weekend ;). Kloey took her first three steps today towards the washing machine – good sign! I was so excited that I tried to get her to do it again. Nope! She wasn’t having it. This child does everything on her own time and if SHE wants to! A few hours later when Nam and Auntie Jenny were here, I stood her up about a foot away from the play kitchen, to see if she would do it again, and she took three little steps again!! I have witnesses!! There is a science to getting her to walk though. I have to put her down close enough to a sturdy object, but not too close that she can just lean until she touches it. I also saw her take a step away from one piece of furniture to get to another. This is big!! I am the only parent that wants the second child to hurry up and walk already!! Yeah Kloey!!!! No pictures or videos yet because 1. Kloey randomly decides she’s going to walk, and 2. My phone is full. 🙂

We are proud to introduce the newest addition to Hatcher Park – a garden!!! The idea was to start off slow, but if anyone knows Scotty they know that he is not the patient type and when he starts a project he goes big the first time around!! 😉 We started our garden three weeks ago with corn, squash, bell peppers, cucumbers, shallots, and parsley – hardly “slow” I might add! We started with a 3 by 5 square and planted EVERYTHING. Things quickly got a little tight.. Whoops! In the past three weeks we have had to thin some of our crops because they grew up and grew up fast! In the weeks since we started, we have added pumpkins, watermelon, cantelope, strawberries, blueberries, onions, and carrots! Scotty has spent most of his weekends outside making the dirt perfect, digging holes, planting, transplanting, and whatever else you have to do to get a garden growing!! He has done an amazing job!! He even downloaded an app that will help us monitor when the crops will harvest (of course there’s an app for that!). We definitely did a few things wrong, but it has been a fun learning process so far!! Scotty has quite the green thumb and he is righting our wrongs as we go! Here’s hoping we get some good food in the next few months!!!!
