Today I decided to see if Miss Kayden would let me do her hair. To my surprise and shock, she did!! The pigtails gave her some energy, so I apologize for the blurry pics!

Today Scotty and I took Kayden on a bike ride down at our old stomping ground- Mission Beach. With the weather being so beautiful after a rainy, gloomy day yesterday we figured we would head down to San Diego and check out the beach. I lived in Pacific Beach for a year and having gone to San Diego State, Scotty and I both have spent many sunny days at the beach! It was fun to see some of the old places we use to go to and to see all the new establishments that have made their way into the town. Wow, it feels like a lifetime ago that we were in college! We could not have asked for a more beautiful morning to ride the boardwalk and revisit some old memories!

After a few miles of biking we stopped to take in the view and let Kayden stretch her legs.

Except for the random puddles that left Kayden with mud spots across her face (how did I not take a picture of that?!), we had a great morning bike ride!

So I know it’s been way too long since I have made a post. I feel like a whole lot has happened and nothing has happened, all at the same time! Since my last post Nam came into town for a week and boy did we take advantage of her services! She came over nearly every day to spend time with her only granddaughter and also to teach me how to cook! Yes, she was only here a week and yes it was a huge undertaking for that amount of time! I should put a disclaimer here: My own mother is a fantastic cook, but we’ll just say I wasn’t a willing participant when it came to cooking for our family and/or parties. Looking back now, I wish I would have been paying a little more attention. So while she was here, Nam brought over bags of groceries and simple recipes… ones that even I can follow!

Nam, like Mimi, runs when the camera comes out so here is a rare shot of Nam playing with Kayden.

Kayden got some good time in with family last week. Once Nam left us to go back to Virginia, Kayden packed her bag and headed to Mimi’s for the night. Kayden is so lucky to have such doting grandparents! Now that things have settled back down it’s time to unspoil this child! 😉

And here are the kids on baby duty.

On Saturday Scotty and I took Kayden to Bates Nut Farm out in Escondido. We have only been to one other pumpkin patch out in Del Mar, but we have heard that this is the mother of all pumpkin patches. Scotty can remember going out to the Farm when he was a young child. So when Maica invited us to go on Saturday, we couldn’t resist! The weather was chilly so we thought it would be a great Fall day to pick out the perfect pumpkin to carve. Wow, were we wrong! We left the chilly beach and hit the 90 degree heat of east county! We were all bundled up, so consequently we didn’t last long! I think we were there a total of twenty minutes. We managed to take a mini-tour and then pick out our pumpkins. Maybe next year we’ll be better prepared and actually get to enjoy the petting zoo, train ride, face painting, tours, or bounce houses!

Sorry, we were apparently too hot to take any pictures! 🙁

Once we got home we dressed the kids up in their matching unisex costumes and did a photo shoot. Last year we dressed the babies up and did a great photo shoot at the pumpkin patch. While that was our goal this year too, it was just too hot for these little duckies!

And here is how she really feels!

What a difference a year makes! Here are the babies last year.

After we unsuccessfully took pictures/videos of the babies, we started the pumpkin carving. Kris and Maica had great team work and carved ‘Chuze’ into their pumpkin- it’s the name of their gym. I’d like to take some credit here and say I at least gave Scotty the idea of what to carve, but honestly I deserve NO credit! Scotty carved a pug face into our perfect pumpkin. It turned out absolutely amazing!!!

Costume? Check. Pumpkin? Check? Candy? Check. We are so ready for Halloween!

On Saturday we took the Rubicon aka “Rubi” (<– My husband MADE me put that!) out for her maiden voyage. We hit the trails of Cleveland National Park. We set out Saturday morning and Scotty said the trail that he chose for us was a total of 2 hours, but we were taking the shorter version… no longer than an hour or hour and a half tops. Well we got on the trail (a bumpy, rocky, dusty, narrow path) at about 10:00 am and we didn’t hit pavement until 2:30. I so did not sign up for that long of an adventure! We were traveling at an average of 2 miles per hour and we ascended to about 5,000 feet and once we reached the top, we didn’t just come back down. We went down a little, around some, and back straight up. It was quite the adventure, I have to admit. We saw some amazing views and we were able to really appreciate the quietness of nature. We saw hikers, mountain bikers, other jeeps, and even some trucks on our trail! Once we hit civilization again, we headed over to Mimi and Grampy’s for dinner.

Here are some of the views from the trail.

On Sunday we found another beach. We headed north this time. We drove through San Clemente and found our selves in Laguna. We walked along the beach and played at the park. We had a low key day today… just what mommy needed! 😉
