Wow, Kayden has come so far so fast in her quest to walk! Ever since her doctor’s appointment (at 15 months) we have been so diligent in making sure that we don’t ‘enable’ her or make it easy for her not to walk. This, I have to say, has been tough on Mommy! Of course i want to catch her before she falls, scoop her up when she does fall, and bring her any toy, gizmo, or snack she could ever want. My husband tells me this is forbidden! Good thing, because since her doctor’s appointment she toddles around the ottoman, moves from furniture to toy, and navigates her Learning Train around the neighborhood! Kayden, you are so close to taking over the world one step at a time! We are cheering you on one wobble to the next!!

Kayden went for her 15 month check up on Friday and we are happy to say our little bundle of joy is still healthy! Her height is 31 inches, which is in the 75th percentile- tall babe! Her weight is 24.8 pounds, which is the 76th percentile- pleasantly plump ;). And her head is 47.5 centimeters, which is the 90th percentile- such a thinker!! We are so happy that Kayden is a healthy little princess. And although she wouldn’t cooperate for the lazy eye examination, we are pretty sure both of her big blue eyes are working perfectly! At our appointment the doctor told us that we need to stop enabling our child by picking her up and moving her from place to place. We took her words to heart and within a few hours our princess was cruising around the ottoman! Yeah for small steps!

It is absolutely amazing how much food we waste having a 1 year old. My goodness, I had no idea how much food I would be dumping down the garbage disposal once I had a child eating real food. When Kayden was a baby she ate EVERYTHING I put in front of her. Now that she has been exposed to the ‘good stuff’ she is becoming more and more finicky. I offer grilled chicken, veggies, hard boiled eggs, etc. that any pediatrician would be proud of, but my little girl is more interested in the mac n cheese, crackers, hot dogs, and M&Ms that she knows are in the cupboards! Little did I know that ‘exposing’ my child to foods meant that I was eliminating the healthy foods she needs! :-/

I don’t have any pictures of her avoiding food, but here are the highlights of Baby Duty this week. 🙂

Play time and feeding time at Miss Maica’s.

Play Time at the Hatchers:

This first picture is of Eli at our garage door. Maica thinks that Eli could care less if she leaves a room. I think that it’s because he is so well adjusted and has a great time at our house. 🙂 I happened to capture a picture of Eli this morning at the garage door right after Maica left. I hated sending her a sad picture, but I knew she would appreciate knowing that her little Buddy sure does miss her when she’s gone!

Lucky for me, Eli was easily distracted from the door and came to play with Kayden and me at our new table!

Nap time consisted of a quick nap for Eli in the crib, but he definitely preferred sleeping on me. How could I resist such a sweet face?!

The pugs needed a break too!

The afternoon consisted of a staggered lunch ( so difficult… who do you feed first?!), a walk at the beach with our new friend Aubrey, and an afternoon snack at the kid table!

All in all, we had another fantastic day!! Thanks Eli for coming to play!!

What happened to the weather on Labor Day?! The days leading up to Labor Day were absolutely gorgeous at the beach. The sun was out, the wind was minimal, and the Hatcher’s were outside playing! Since the weather was so great that weekend Scotty and Kris (Eli’s Dad) planned a whole beach day. Come Monday morning it was sprinkling, but somehow that didn’t stop the boys. Maica and I reluctantly packed up the kids and headed out to the beach. At 9:00 sharp we hopped on the bikes and headed for breakfast. The sprinkles seemed to clear, so after breakfast we rode on to the beach. At one point,  Maica was under a blanket holding Eli while he napped and Kayden and I were toddling around the beach in the rain. The boys swear they were unloading the car, but I’m pretty sure I caught them sitting in the car waiting out the rain! The rain soon passed, but the clouds were persistent. We spent a few hours at the beach, but headed home around lunch time. The girls took the car home (yes, we drive a car to the beach before our bike ride because we have enough crap to last a week so we the boys can’t possibly carry it all). Rain or shine, we sure did have an eventful day!

Scotty has been working tirelessly on updating our blog. I have been begging for some girlishness to be added to my blogs and finally my ‘requests’ have been heard!! This is a Beta (so he tells me!) so we might have some kinks for the first few days. Hope you enjoy the new face lift!
