Scotty has always traveled for work since we began dating. When it was just he and I it pretty much sucked, but I dealt with it. When I was pregnant it was emotional. When I first had Kayden it was terrifying. Now that Miss Kayden is a little over a year, she knows that her daddy is gone and I honestly think she knows enough to miss him. It is probably the hardest thing to hear her say “Dadda!” over and over every day. She says it when she looks at our little family picture. She says it when I’m talking to him on the phone. She says it when we make a video for him. And she says it randomly ALL the time. It absolutely breaks my heart because I know he isn’t coming home until Friday and it’s like I try to explain it to her (ha!), but I know she doesn’t get it. I know she says Dadda sometimes out of context just because it’s one of the few words in her rapidly expanding 😉 vocabulary. Either way, I am always trying to do something to distract her! My best trick is to hand her our family picture because she gets so happy and giggles and says “Daddy” when she sees it. It’s amazing, even though she and I (poor mommy never gets any love) are also in the picture, she manages to always point to Scotty and says “Daddy!” Such a sweet feeling!

On Friday Kayden and I headed up to Irvine to hang out with Kim and her girls, Addison (2) and Reese (10 months). The weather was beautiful and we had a good time just catching up and chatting about life. We took the girls to lunch at a little Mexican food place and boy was that an experience! Kayden, I thought, was a handful at restaurants. Kim has the two girls that were so well behaved, but still took a lot of work. Addison is great because she can sit in a chair and feed herself. Reese, on the other hand, preferred to eat her food standing in her high chair! She is such a little climber! Kayden needed to be eating the ENTIRE time or she got loud, awesome! Kayden shared Addison’s rice, my quesadilla, and put down the ‘good’ stuff I brought for her to eat! She seemed to prefer everyone else’s food to her cold chicken and green beans. Imagine that! After lunch we took the kids to a water play area. We thought Addison was going to be the only one playing in the water… WRONG!! I could not keep Kayden away for very long. She kept trying to get out of my lap so I figured I’d let her go play! I took her clothes off and she scooted in and out of the water squirters. Addison, the only one in a bathing suit, preferred to play on the surrounding stairs! Reese wasn’t far behind! She wanted to play with her big sis, even if it was on the hot concrete!! After swim time we packed up and said our good byes. Kayden slept the whole way home and then another hour and a half when we got home! Have I mentioned yet how awesome of a sleeper she is?! In fact she’s sleeping right now… on her second hour in fact! 🙂 Thanks Kim, Addison, and Reese-ee for a great day at the mall! Can’t wait for our next visit!!

A few weeks ago Scotty ordered one of those tow-your-kid-behind-your-bike contraptions. This was yet another toy.. for Scotty Kayden!! So this thing has been sitting in his office, which is of course IN the house, for the past two weeks. To his defense, Scotty’s bike has been in the shop for the past week so he hasn’t had the opportunity to get this thing up and running. On Saturday he picked up his bike and we went on a bike ride to the boardwalk, which was great because the weather was just amazing this weekend. When we got home I asked him if he wanted me to make lunch. He said sure and that he would be right in after he put the bikes away. I barbecued our lunch (that’s right I barbecue!) and he was nowhere to be seen. I went out to check on him and Scotty had fully rearranged our garage and put together the bike contraption! Needless to say he forfeited lunch and went on a cruise with Kayden. He had to show off his new toy so he called up Kris. Scotty towed Eli and Kayden around the neighborhood and both babies could not have been happier!!

It turns out that Kayden has a little bit of diva in her. I have found in the past few days that my Little Miss is just fine to express herself with loud shrieks and throwing her head back- which just seems to compound the issue so much more! If she was pissed before, hitting her head on the floor just makes her see red!! This new tantrum is something that I have seen coming, but honestly I’m not sure I am ready for it to be a daily occurrence just yet! In the past I have seen some mini-tantrums when I take my iPhone from her or take some other preferred (but not appropriate object) from her. Well today at Gymboree class she was having little tiffs all over the place! She was happy when I was helping her walk to the different areas in class, but when I put her too far from the item she wanted, all hell broke lose! Yesterday she was having a great time when I was flying her around the mall. She suddenly broke out into screams for seemingly no reason, but she was giggling uncontrollably only seconds before?! Big surprise ladies and gentlemen, I have a diva on my hands! I hear I was a bit of a diva myself, wanting only my mother to hold me. So, I guess it’s just karma. All I have to say is, “Kayden, you too will have your day!”

I don’t have any diva shots, but here are some pics from the past few days.

Here is Kayden enjoying a swim on our balcony. Lucky girl, she has an ocean view. Not quite the infinity pool, but we’ll take it!

She sure does have some ‘big shoes’ to fill!

Kayden is definitely too cool for school!

While in the past I knew that doing a sleep update would immediately result in a tough night with my baby, I am pretty confident that we are all established sleepers in this home! So let’s update the sleep log. Typically Kayden sleeps 11 hours a night with a 2 hour nap and a 1 hour nap- one nap in the morning and one nap in the afternoon. It varied on which nap would be the 2 hour nap and which would be the one hour. Well, lately Kayden has been sleeping 12 hours at night. When she does this she opts for no morning nap, but a great 2 hour nap in the afternoon. I, personally, love this! This opens our mornings up to do so many things- one of which be a beach run for mommy! Unfortunately, she is inconsistent on whether or not she wants the morning nap. I’d say of the seven day week, she skips the morning nap just twice. For a control freak like myself, this makes my job neurotic need to establish a routine very difficult! I have to say though, it’s not so tough because if I do decide to put her down for a morning nap, she always takes one!! Kayden, my dear, I might have once thought you didn’t know how to sleep, but I now know that you have always had it figured out! Thanks for the 15+ hours of sleep you give me in one day!!
