Date Night has a whole new meaning since Little Miss has joined our family. When Scotty and I first dated we went on elaborate dates when the feeling moved us. When we started living together I brought in the ‘date night’ concept. Every Friday was determined ‘date night.’ When Kayden was first born (a few months in) we laughed at people who said that date nights were a thing of the past once they had kids. We couldn’t understand the big deal- the baby slept through the whole occasion!! Well, Miss Kayden seems to wake up at the mere presence of food at our table. She has very structured naps and if we try to fake her out and take her into the world during her nap, hoping she’ll sleep, she promptly wakes up when any food arrives! So date nights have had to be modified since Kayden has been our third wheel. Our new date nights include the Petersons. Every Friday evening Eli (plus mommy and daddy) come over for a little social interaction. We try to put out some appetizers and then who ever has a dinner that can ‘make itself’ (a.k.a. food that can be put in the microwave/oven and be pulled out to be a complete meal) brings that over for the date. The Petersons are great because they have Eli (aka Buddy) and they completely understand what it means to hang out with babies that will perhaps be a little fussy or a little tired or a little cranky! Eli is probably the most relaxed and easy going babe that anyone will meet- I know I know, they put their best foot forward for the friends and not the mommy and daddy! Either way, Scotty and I are so appreciative of a little adult time with great friends who also are going through the baby stages! Here are some candid shots of our latest date night!

Well it’s no secret that Kayden got her two front teeth about two and a half months ago. She seemed to handle it very well. She still sleeps through the night and rarely has any extra fussiness. She still doesn’t favor the evening times, but nothing too out of the ordinary to signal there is discomfort. Well last night Kayden woke up around 1:30 am and let out a few loud cries. I watched her on the cam and she quickly recovered and went back to sleep. Then it happened again at 4:30. Again, she quickly fell back to sleep. This, to me, was very strange. Well tonight I was playing with her and letting her lay on my legs and she kept looking up at the dogs. As she giggled (oh Kayden giggles are SO SWEET!), I noticed a tooth! Not the two front teeth, but the right kanine tooth!! What the heck?! My baby has a snaggle tooth?? The normal pattern is they get their two bottom and then the two top and then from there the side teeth. Hmmm… this should make for some very interesting smiles!

Here are some of Kayden’s sweet, sweet smiles!

Kayden likes to bang things… but she doesn’t like the noise it makes! She has been interested in banging toys on different hard surfaces for a while now so I gave her the good ‘ol pot and wooden spoon. She was more interested in eating the wooden spoon than using it to hit anything. She is very much her father’s daughter… afraid of loud noises!!

Here is Kayden out for a walk with Mimi.

I feel like I am writing Weekend Updates every other day! The weeks come and go so quickly, it just amazes me! Kayden is officially 8 1/2 months old today! Wow!! Scotty says I am the only person that says, ‘My baby is 8 months, two weeks, and six days old!’ He doesn’t realize that Mom’s speak in months when it comes to our babes! We speak in weeks when we are pregnant, months when they are babies, and years when they are toddlers! So anyway… back on track… We went to Mimi and Grampy’s on Saturday and spent a quiet, rainy day with family. Scotty and I took the opportunity to sneak out on a lunch date to Chevy’s. Maybe it was only me, but I think it was the first time that I have truly relaxed while I ate! I do love Mexican food, so it was a great treat for me! The whole family enjoyed a little Kayden time!!

So lately Kayden has been getting more and more inquisitive, especially when it comes to what’s on Mommy and Daddy’s plate. Come dinner time she reaches for whatever we are eating (or drinking for that matter!). I decided to up her dinner time to when we were eating dinner. I found, though, that I was feeding her right at our dinner time, which meant that I would have to re-heat my dinner in the microwave after baby and daddy were done eating. This worked fine for about a week and then I decided to get creative. I have been feeding Kayden pureed veggies for a while. In fact, I have been feeding her random peas and tiny pieces of other veggies  randomly from my plate as well. So, I decided to steam some veggies and cut them into super small pieces and put them on her highchair tray during dinner time. To my surprise/delight it worked! Scotty and I enjoyed a quiet dinner for the first time in months!! Sure it resulted in A LOT of clean up, but to me it was totally worth it! She was so happy grabbing at her food and trying to put it in her mouth. Sure it wasn’t as fast as mommy shoveling it in, but minus a few frustrated screams, it was a total success!!
