Well the Chargers sure let us down today. They lost to the Raiders?? This was the first loss in 13 games! It was a tough day to be a Chargers fan. Good thing Kayden and Eli were too smitten with each other to understand what their daddys were yelling at the TVs about!

Talking!

Kayden is finding her voice. In the past two days our little princess is talking to us and just loves hearing her own voice! Boy, does she love hearing it because she goes on and on AND ON! 🙂 It’s really the cutest thing ever! Here is a short video, but unfortunately when the large black iPhone is thrust in her face she seems to clam up! She loves the flash of the big camera, but the iPhone gets her a little shy!

My goal for October is to establish a nap time routine. I don’t much mind where she sleeps or when specifically, but I want to figure out a general time of day when she takes longer naps. This week I am starting to see a pattern. She takes one long nap after her second feeding in the morning and a long nap after her first lunch. She also takes a short nap about an hour after she wakes up on the morning and right before her last feeding of the day. So let’s break that down- short nap around 7:30 am, long nap around 10:00 am, long nap around 1:00 pm, and short nap around 6:00 pm. The next item up is where is she going to nap. It’s easy to have her fall asleep on me and sleep for hours, but that’s not a good solution, especially since I will be going back to work next month.

So far she likes her long morning nap on my bed and her long afternoon nap in the pack n play.

She does not like sleeping on the couch if there is a good show on TV (such as Jersey Shore)!

We have just implemented the crib as the afternoon nap spot. Okay so we just started it today and it lasted until a skateboarder rolled down the street and Jinx yelled at him! Being married to Scotty means that we don’t monitor the baby with a standard noise machine, we monitor on camera! We both have an app on our iPads that allows us to watch her while she “naps”.

Kayden got a beautiful quilt from Anni Campbell. We just had to do a photo shoot with Kayden and the quilt wearing her favorite tu-tu (from Dorothy Sloan). Here are some of the highlights!

Well folks, I called it! I ruined everything great about our sleeping pattern by posting it on the blog. Every time I post a sleep update it’s because things are going well and have been for long enough that I think it is leading up to a break through- sleeping through the night. Last night, my little one reminded me that she is in charge and still has needs in the middle of the night!

We woke up at 12:30 and I felt like it was too early to possibly want to eat again because she had 7 ounces at 7:30 and she had been sleeping until 2 and 3 and even 4 am for weeks now. So I gave her a soothie and she fell back asleep. Well at 1:00 she woke up again and let me know she was ready to eat! So she did.

Then she woke up at 4:00 and I let her ‘talk’ for a few minutes. I then went in to feed her again and she fell asleep 5 minutes into her feeding. Awesome, guess she wasn’t hungry!

Finally, she woke up at 5:30 and I turned the mobile on. That worked for 15 minutes and then she decided that mommy really doesn’t need to sleep so we got up to face the day. Wow, sure hope the nap routine is in place today because I think we’ll both be cashing in on that one!

Kayden is beginning to get into a routine. Well, now that I have put it in to writing, it will all end here! 🙂 Let’s begin with the sleeping. She goes to bed around 8:00 with her last feeding falling somewhere between 6:00 and 7:30. It doesn’t seem to matter when she feeds last, she goes about 7 hours between feedings and I always end up with 6 hours of sleep in the first stretch. Then she gets up once somewhere between 2:00 and 4:00 for a feeding. Finally, she gets up at 6:30. So this is our sleep routine!

Naps are the next routine we are working on. She is learning to sleep on her own, not on mommy! We are working mostly on the morning nap. She will sleep on the bed or couch for a pretty good length of time- about an hour. This has happened twice so my fingers are crossed that this is becoming a pattern!
