I love all the changes that seem to occur each day I am with Kayden. From the smiles to the coo-ing, I love to watch her change and grow. Lately it seems like she is getting harder and harder to keep satisfied. Laying on the couch looking at the ceiling use to be enough to keep her occupied while I did the dishes. Then it became propping her up on the couch so that she could watch TV. That use to buy me enough time to do the dishes AND the floors! Now we have to mix things up!

When Kayden seems bored I try a whole bag of tricks! First, I prop her up and see if she wants to watch TV. I always add a few toys because she likes to grab things now.

If that doesn’t work we try reading a book.

[simage=1309,288,n,center,][simage=1310,288,n,center,]

If the plot is too complicated or she loses interest we try a soothie. She’s hit and miss with the soothie so it works some attempts and doesn’t on others.

If these simple tricks don’t work, we bring out the big guns! First, the swing!

[simage=1296,288,n,center,]

Then, the bouncer. Well, not really yet because she doesn’t fit, but that will be in the rotation soon enough!

[simage=1301,288,n,center,]

And the last resort is only last because I don’t want her to get sick of it yet! This is her activity mat placed on the bed with several bears and blankets strategically placed so that she can reach them. We use the mat when I need to take a shower and/or clean the bathrooms. So far, it works pretty well!

And if all else fails, I pass her my toys and she’s instantly happy!!

I have been on the look out for Kayden’s transition item. A transition item is like a security blanket for small children. It can be a blanket, teddy bear, or doll. I went through Kayden’s nursery yesterday putting away the clothes that she’s grown out of and I came across some other items that I forgot about. Kayden came a few weeks early so luckily my mom and Katrina were here to help me put the finishing touches on the nursery. This included putting things away from my baby shower (yeah, I procrastinated a little!). I continued to find new treasures every time I would go rearrange things in the nursery. Now I can say I finally have a hand on everything she has and I found her ‘chubby bunny’. I gave it to Kayden yesterday and she enjoyed chomping on the face and ears and holding onto the blanket part. I think we found our transition item!

I have heard people suggest that the mom should sleep with the item so that it smells like her. I decided to go ahead and try this last night. I will continue to sleep with it for the next few nights so that it soaks up my scent! Weird maybe, but I think she loves it that much more now that it smells like mommy!

This past weekend Kayden, Scotty, and I headed up to Yorba Linda to melt! What is going on with this weather?! I can’t complain though. I am blogging in the air conditioning and watching Oprah, all while the baby sleeps. Won’t last long so let’s get back on track!

We went up to Yorba Linda and had another nice visit with my family. Katrina and Jer were babysitting an adorable (and energetic!) year and a half old, Fiona. We had fun watching Katrina chase her around while Jer played on his iPad :). It was great to see what we have in store for us!!

Even with Fiona running around and entertaining us all, everyone still found time to love up on Kayden! Especially the boys!!

Mommy got a break!

On Sunday Scotty got up early with Kayden and decided to put together her jumper. The age for the jumper is staring at 4 months, which we realize Kayden isn’t old enough for but we couldn’t resist! I think she’ll love this when she’s big enough to support herself… or at least touch the ground!

Something happens around three months of age that your doctor doesn’t tell you about (or she does, but you forget!) and the books only mention if you look specifically for it (because you’re freaking out!). Babies poop less. I remember at Kayden’s 2 month check up the doctor told me that her poops should go from daily to every few days. Ha Ha I said, my little princess poops every diaper change! A month went by and she continued to BM every diaper change so that little ‘warning’ the doc so briefly mentioned just flew in one ear and out the next. Well one day Kayden made good on what the doctor had said might happen. One day went by. The second day went by. The third and so forth. On the fourth day she gave me what I so eagerly looked for as I peeked in her diaper after a toot. A poopy! Then a day went by. And another. And so forth for another 4 days. This can’t be! She must be plugged! Or so I thought. So after talking to 2 nurses and the doctor on the phone, I marched down there with a ‘constipated’ baby. A quick visit later I found out that my baby is in fact not plugged up, but just doing what they had told me would happen. The doctor aggressively massaged her belly and by the end of the day we had 5 blow outs! Kayden is back on track!!

Tummy Time

Kayden hates tummy time, as I have mentioned before. I still make her do it daily because it helps her strengthen her neck and more importantly because my husband asks me every day if we did it. Sometimes I just lay her on her belly for a few seconds so that I’m technically not lying! 🙂 Today I managed to catch her on camera looking like she might be enjoying it.

And here is what she really thinks about tummy time!

Yesterday Kayden and I went up to Yorba Linda to meet Kayden’s newest best friend Reese Jones. Reese was born September 16th and she is just amazing. Of course, she was a perfect angel during our visit. She slept the whole time! Addison, on the other hand, never quit moving and talking and running and kissing and smiling! What a handful Kim has, but she handles her girls very well! As always, it was so nice to spend some time with Kim and her daughters!

[sthumbs=1200|1199|1202,160,3,n,center,]

Kayden also slept for most of our visit, but when she woke up we decided to do our own little photo shoot. Unfortunately, when Kayden wakes up she doesn’t wake up ‘happy’ and I couldn’t convince her to fake it either!

Luckily Addison was there to kiss it and make it all better! She is such a sweetie!!
