On Friday we headed up to Orange County for a visit with my family. We enjoy going up there for many reasons, but we really like that we have family that just love up on Kayden. There is a line to hold her, feed her, and even change her! Scotty and I can sit back and just laugh at everyone competing for time with Kayden! This trip Nick even got in on it! He has been a little apprehensive around her, probably because she is still so small and seems ‘breakable.’ We have tried to assure him that if we haven’t broken her yet, it isn’t possible. He says when she is able to walk around and fall down that he will play with her more. But this trip he spent time with her on the couch making her smile. Her smile is infectious and can melt anyone’s heart!! All in all, we had a nice time with family.

Since Kayden’s arrival into our family many things have changed in our home. The pugs have taken the brunt of most of these changes. In preparation for her coming home we put one of the couches off limits and designated the second couch theirs. Now that she is here they get no couches! They both sleep on one doggy bed between the kitchen and family room. They frequently ask to get on the couches, but with the baby on the couch we just can’t take the risk the door bell will ring and they’ll stampede her on their way to answer the door.

Jinx is being a little more finicky with her food and Kooper is just confused and trying to figure out his new role in the family. Jinx beats him up if he tries to clean her bowl. Mommy is a little less appreciative of his helping me around the house. He also gets confused when I exhile him at night. Let me explain. Pugs snore. Kooper snores louder than any pug, hands down! When I am between feedings, I am sleeping with one ear open waiting for Miss Kayden to call me for the next feeding. His snoring is significantly impacting my ability to fall asleep between these feedings. For this reason, after 2 or 3 times reshifting of his body while he is snoring, I send him downstairs to sleep. He always manages to find his way back upstairs, but he does go away when he sees me coming! Poor Kooper! I’d like to say they are adjusting to the changes, but I think they’re still a little pissed! We are working on giving them extra love so they understand they still have a place in our family!

The only couch occupants are supposed to be Scotty, me, and the baby. Sometimes Scotty will allow the pugs to come up, but not on my watch!

Today is the last day of Scotty’s extended vacation. We decided to do a family outing. It’s funny because having a baby has inspired us to go out into the community and find all the fun things to do. Unfortunately, Kayden usually sleeps through the whole experience! She has been to the Zoo, the Wild Animal Park, and now the Birch Aquarium. Even if she was awake, I’m not sure how much of the experience she would retain anyway! Had she been awake, Kayden would have learned about jelly fish, sharks, fish, and sea horses!!

After the Birch Aquarium we headed out to lunch. We went to one of our favorites, The Broken Yolk in Pacific Beach. If you are a fan of the show Man vs. Food, you would have seen the restaurant featured on the show! It was fun reminiscing about our early days of dating. What a trip being there with our daughter! The years have flown by, but we are so happy to be where we are today!

After lunch we headed home. We are now settling in to watch a movie and enjoy family time. Scotty’s choice of movies is Toy Story 3- he loves having a baby because it’s an excuse to watch all of the pixar movies! However, Kayden is well rested and isn’t so sure she wants to watch a movie….

It’s been a whirlwind weekend for the Hatchers! Scotty came home on Wednesday and told me that he was taking a few extra days off of work. He is transitioning between jobs and has some days he has to take, so he has been home with the baby and I. It’s so nice having an extra set of hands to help! We decided to head up to my parents’ on Friday and spend a few days there. It’s been a month since Jer and Katrina got to see the baby so we wanted to make sure they had some quality time with the baby. On Saturday we went to a family barbecue where Kayden got to meet my dad’s side of the family. We were so proud to show her off!! Kayden got to meet her great grandparents at the BBQ. What a blessing to have four great grandparents that just adore her!

On Sunday Kim and Addison came over for a visit. Addison is such a ham and loved posing for the camera. She wore mommy’s sun glasses, kissed the baby, and rode the dog! Kim has less than 2 weeks until her due date and she looks amazing. She was running around after Addison and carrying on adult conversations. She’s amazing! 🙂 The next time we see Kim and family she will have her baby that we are all so excited to meet!

As Kayden gets older she is becoming more and more of a challenge to entertain. No longer is laying her on the couch or putting her in her swing enough to keep her happy! I noticed one morning that she was looking up at the fan and smiling. She watched the fan for a few minutes and then fell asleep. Since then Nam bought her a mobile for her crib, which she is only just learning what its purpose is. She seems more interested in the base unit, but she’ll learn!

Yesterday I decided to prop her up on the couch and just see if she could hold her head up. To my surprise, she could! She just loves watching the many colors on the TV. I can rest assured that she does not understand what I am watching because I have some pretty questionable choices of TV shows (i.e. Jersey Shore and Big Brother are just two of my guilty pleasures). I do put on Baby Einstein for her, maybe hoping it will erase the exposure to my reality TV. Either way it seems to be our latest fix to keeping Missy happy!!
