Today I decided to do a quick photo shoot with Kayden because, well she is perhaps the cutest baby ever!! We started with a hat because it’s cold here in Southern California in mid-July. That’s right, it’s cold! We also did a princess headband because every baby girl needs a princess headband. Hope you enjoy!

In the last week we seem to have established a sleep pattern. I know as I write this I am probably jinxing myself, but nonetheless I have written so many blogs about sleep deprivation that I figured it an important topic to revisit. In the past week I have averaged about 8 hours of sleep each night- some nights 7 1/2 hours and some nights 9 hours. This is an improvement from 6 to 7 hours each night, so it’s worthy of celebration! Kayden is eating every 3 hours during the night and not waking between these feedings. The three hours gives me a good 2 to 2.5 hours of sleep between feedings. This is enough time to make me feel rested come morning. Scotty has been great because he takes Kayden from 4:00 to 5:30 am. He does this mostly because his bathroom is within her nursery and naturally she wakes up when he comes in to get ready for work. At 5:30 am he hands her back off to me, but at this point she is in her swing downstairs and I set up the couch for my last stretch of sleep. Amazingly enough, this is the longest stretch of sleep that I get… usually about 3 hours! Since this pattern has been set for about a week, I really think we have made a break through. I have to say though, her being in the nursery is the key to my restful “naps” between feedings. When she is in the nursery we don’t hear every moan and grunt and we can’t hear her trying to get out of her swaddle. The swaddle is still her ‘frenemy’ (friend/enemy). She thinks she hates it, but it eliminates her getting into a fight with herself as she sleeps! I think we are on our way to sleeping through the night. It might not happen this week or this month, but I think uninterrupted sleep is on the horizon!! 🙂

Friday afternoon I frantically emailed my mom to tell her that I feared Kayden did not have enough bows. I’m not sure where this sudden frightening thought came from, but it arose nonetheless. Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a girly girl. I have adamantly stated from the time I knew my peanut was a girl that I would make her be a glittery princess. This meant she would wear bows! Well in order to train a baby to wear bows you need to start right away. That’s what I heard anyway!! Kayden hasn’t worn a bow since she arrived, thus creating a huge problem. So on Friday I emailed my mom voicing my fears (I should say, email chains are a frequent thing in my family!). Mimi immediately hopped in the car and headed to the closest boutique. She got a handful of bows and about ten corresponding outfits! Me, not being the girly girl, is learning how to put these things on her. For example, i just learned that the bow doesn’t belong in the front of her forehead between her eyes. It looks much better off to the side. Ahh the many things I need to learn to give my girl a fighting chance!!!

For some reason my mom and dad really enjoy having us stay over night. Okay, by us I mean Kayden. They enjoy this so much probably because they don’t hear Kayden’s middle of the night screams…or so they say anyway! Yesterday we came up after Scotty got off work and he and I went out on date night while Mimi and grampy babysat. I know they loved it! When bed time rolled around we decided to let Kayden sleep in our room in the pack ‘n play. We now fully appreciate her sleeping in her nursery! She makes so many grunts and groans that it keeps us up. Well, it keeps me up anyway. Scotty is better able to sleep through those noises! So last night I took the first shift and Scotty took the second. He got lucky though because Mimi woke up and took over his shift. All in all the night was pretty successful!
