Happy Birthday, sweet girl!! Kloey you are the second best thing that I have ever done! Some words to describe you on your third birthday are: sweet, sensitive, spit fire, funny, potty humor, sense of humor, funny phrases, smart, likeable, fun, happy (until you’re not!), loveable, kind, gentle, big personality/little body, and awesome! Thanks for teaching me every day what it means to be patient. Thank you for being forgiving when sometimes I’m just not as patient as I should be. You have taught me a new side of being a mother. A side I didn’t have to develop with your ever-pleasing sister. You are teaching me how to be a better mommy. Thank you for being mine!!

Here are some pictures from Kloey’s big day. We started the morning off opening presents  and heading to our favorite breakfast spot- Beach Break. Then we took a ride down the coast in the jeep. We found ourselves at Nam’s pool because that’s what Kloey wanted to do on her birthday- swim! Unfortunately, the sun didn’t get this memo so mommy stayed in the spa! After that we headed home for naps and then the Petersons joined us for a little impromptu Sunday get together. Buddy showed up in costume, so we had a costume birthday celebration for Kloey. Since we dress up daily, it was a perfect idea! We ended the day with pizza and pizooki’s. Kloey isn’t a big dessert person, so a fresh warm cookie on top of ice cream was right up her ally! Great day!!

It’s that time of year again- swim lessons!! Last year Kayden came so far and was labeled – “water safe”. This year we are hoping for “swimmer”! Kloey kind of decided mid-season last year that she just was not interested in taking lessons (aka listening to and following another person’s directions!). This year we hope she sticks to the program. So far, so good! Kloey is working on diving down to get rings in the shallow end, crab walk (her personal fav!), floating on her back, and blowing bubbles as she puts her head under water. Kayden is reviewing some of the big things she was working on at the end of last year. She is working on her back stroke (zipper, airplane, BLAST OFF!), taking big strokes under water to swim across the pool, and diving down to get rings in the shallow end. Both girls are doing great! Thanks Nam for letting us use your heated pool (and spa!!).

When did this happen? When did my first born grow up to be a future-Kindergartener? I didn’t sign up for this. I signed up for a sweet baby. I signed up for a dependent little human that would need me for everything. All day. All me. WHAT HAPPENED?! I just started Kayden’s Kindergarten registration form and minus the annoying details of when she had which shots and who our insurance is, I got a little emotional as it seems I am signing my baby away. Here is my child. Take care of her if she gets hurt. Feed her when she gets hungry (as long as it’s during designated recess and lunch times), and love her…. as I do. I’m proud to say that this transition has brought tears to my eyes for about a year now. I cried when I brought Kayden to preschool… for about two months straight! She is my little human. She is me. We have the same fears of new situations, new people, new routines, new anything! We are shy. So sending her off into the world is terrifying… for us both. BUT, I know my little Kayden is a sweet child. I know her teacher will love her. I know the other little girls will beg to be her friend. I know the other parents who work with her will rave about her good manners and sweet smile. And I know her beloved auntie will be with her EVERY day. She’s got this! I might not be ready for this, but I will do EVERYTHING to make her believe that she is! Kayden, you are the first best thing I have ever done in this world. You will shine bright and you will conquer hurdles you didn’t know you could. WE will do this! WE are strong! Please never grow too big to cuddle in my arms when life isn’t fair or when things get scary. WE GOT THIS!!

A few months ago, while taking the kids on a walk on the beach, Scotty and I decided it was time to try to take our first official family trip… to Hawaii!!! The kids love the beach so much that it seemed obvious that we should go to a place where they could play in the sand all day. And when they were finished playing in the sand, what better way to wash off than in a nice warm pool? So last week we hopped on a plane and headed to Hawaii (Happy Birthday, Scotty!). Nam and Papa joined us for the trip and Auntie Kelly and Ian also joined for most of our stay! Thanks family for helping us make such fun memories!!

This is obviously what a screen shot looks like. Oops, meant to save the picture, not screen shot it! 😉

First adventure– the plane ride! Oh dear God, who ever decided to schedule a 6 hour flight at 7 PM (right before bedtime for young kiddos!) obviously isn’t a parent??? Bad idea! Kloey, didn’t sleep, not a wink! This however wasn’t the issue. The issue was that we had loaded movies on the laptop, purchased a splitter at the airport (paying way too much for it, undoubtedly!), and settled in to watch our first movie… only to find that the earphones we brought weren’t laptop compatible. In fact, not only were they not laptop compatible, they weren’t iPad or iPhone compatible either. So what this means is 6 hours of no distractions. Sure books are fun and toys from home are fun, but both lasted less than 5 minutes each. Joy! This also means that mommy didn’t get to read or watch the movie she downloaded too. Double joy!! All in all, they did a fantastic job inspite of the setback. No tantrums, melt downs, or whining. Until we arrived at the hotel.. at midnight… 3AM California time!! This means that the kids were awake from 4 PM (after naps) until 3 AM (the wee hours of the morning!) After a major meltdown walking to our hotel room (surely waking up every person within earshot), the girls settled in and went to bed…. and woke up EARLY!! They never really adjusted to Hawaii time and woke up before 6 AM each day, which made for very long days, but they handled it like champs!! (aka LONG naps!)

In the seven days we were in Hawaii, we managed to do a lot of fun things. One of the best parts of the trip was that our good friends, the Sargent Family, were there with us for 4 days!! We stayed right next door and the kids played together each day. It was great for the kids and the parents!! The Sargents were in Hawaii for a wedding and we happen to have scheduled our trip for the same time they were there! The kids swam, ran, watched movies, ate, napped, and had a great time together!! Both families got to meet and play with a dolphin up close! We met Nimbus, a twelve year old male dolphin who was very gentle with the kiddos. We pet him and the the kids even got to  kiss him! We had a great time! Thanks Nam and Papa for the experience! We have more photos that I’ll upload later!

And finally, Mother’s Day!! On Sunday we celebrated Mother’s Day with a nice brunch at the hotel. The kids were great and made me feel special all day! After we filled up at brunch, the kids went of with Nam and Papa to play for a few hours while Scotty and I enjoyed a little R & R beach side. It was a great end to the trip!!

As a family we had a GREAT time and are currently looking into booking our next vacation!! Hmmmm…. wonder where we should go?? 😉
