It’s no secret that Kayden’s most favorite place to go (locally and for free!) is the park. I have said it before, my child would swing on a swing for an hour if I would be willing to stand there and push her for that long. She likes the motion of the swing, watching children run around, and being with the person swinging her – usually Mommy or Nam. She loves everything about the swing. For their birthdays, Kayden and Kloey got a big girl and baby swing. The idea was to hang them from one of the many trees in our backyard. That, unfortunately, didn’t work out. So naturally the next option is to build a custom swing set. Not go and buy one already made or one that requires a few nuts and bolts, no that’s too easy! Papa, Scotty, Jake and Ian have spent the past two whole days working on this custom swing set. The only requirement was that it had to be tall enough that the girls could really swing high. I think they accomplished that! The swing set stands 12 feet high, which is taller than our house, and has two swings plus Princess Pony!! Luckily, we have a big backyard and were able to find a place for this massive structure! Thanks Nam, Papa, Jake, and Ian for helping Scotty build the most perfect swing set, which will definitely build fun memories for our family.

Next stop at Hatcher Park is the trampoline. Scotty and I got the girls a larger-than-necessary trampoline for their birthdays. It is not a child’s trampoline. It is not a small trampoline. It is a serious attraction in our park. Kids love it. Parents love it. And even grandparents love it!! Every day the girls and I go out on the trampoline to get our wiggles out before nap or bed. Ten minutes of jumping, twisting, turning, and running on the trampoline is sure to knock any kid out!!

Next, we have the pool. I have blogged about the pool, so you all know that it is a frequent place of entertainment, especially now that we are having some consistent sun. We have a solar panel that heats the pool to about 80-85 degrees. Warm enough for me to go in and stay in for more than 5 minutes! We love our pool!

And finally, the yard. Even with each of these stops in the backyard, we still have enough room to run! Kayden loves to play tag – although the game seems to be over when it’s her turn to tag you! We skip, we hop scotch, we sprint, we gallop, we do it all! Kayden and Kloey love to go in their play house too, which is great for me because Kloey is quarantined and Kayden just thinks it’s so great to be in the house with someone for a change!

I am a little late with this post, but we have been super busy celebrating birthdays around here. We have been recovering by returning our lives back to normal!! Let’s celebrate Kayden with a top 10 reasons we love Miss Kayden.

10. You’re Kloey’s nanny. You are the MOST responsible child I have ever met. You watch Kloey and always come to get me if Kloey finds herself in a compromising position. “MOMMY!! COME LOOK AT KLOEY!” You are always right on and I usually have to save Kloey’s life by removing a wire from her hand, getting her out from under the couch, or get her off the chair. Thanks Kayden for being so responsible!

9. You are attached to me. I know my friends and family have heard me complain that I can’t shake you, but I secretly love it my little BFF. You often get run over when I am buzzing around the house, but that doesn’t stop you from being with me at all times. I know this will not last forever, so for now I can learn to love it!

8. Your smile. You wear it often and you bring light to my days. I love your laugh!

7. Your words. I am often told how polite you are. You say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ and you wave to strangers. You have an amazing vocabulary that makes you seem wise beyond your years. I love that I can have conversations with you and explain the ways of the world… and I’m pretty sure you understand what I am saying.

6. You’re chill. Kayden, I love that I can put on Sesame Street and I can take a shower without interruption. I love that you tip toe around the house when Kloey is napping. I love that you are laying on the couch next to me right now just hanging out (monitoring your sister so I can do this blog!).

5. You love to swing and jump! There are few things that beat going to the park and swinging. You can stay on a swing for an hour. And now we have our very own swings in the backyard, so we have entertainment all day long!!

4. You love to read. Not only do you love to listen to me read stories, but you can often finish sentences in the books. You notice small details in pictures. You remember characters and can tell me about the stories we read. You love going to the library – more for the toys than the books though! You are so smart, Kayden!!

3. You are a pleaser. You always ask me, “Mommy, are you happy?” Funny thing is, you ask me this when you know I am not! I know this is your way of figuring out social cues, but please don’t ask mommy if she is happy when Kloey has unplugged the TV or when you have spilled an entire cup of milk on the couch! If my face is red and I am sweating, the answer is probably no sweet girl! 😉

2. You are game to do anything. On Mondays we go grocery shopping. Is this fun? No! But you never complain. You run up the isles, but not too far of course! If I need to run errands you pile in the car and go along with anything I need you to do.

1. You are an amazing big sister! This past year was a major adjustment for our family as we brought your little sister into our little family. You had always been number 1 in our lives and in the past year you have had to share the spot light. You have never laid an aggressive hand on your sister, said an unkind word to or about your sister, and you have lately been calling her ‘my child’. You honestly love your little sister and are always looking out for her. You are an amazing little girl and I am so honored to be your mommy. You make my world turn and I couldn’t love you more.

Thank you Kayden for making the past three years the best years of my life. You are awesome. Now, we missed terrible twos, so please be kind and let’s make your threes just as cool… pretty please!!

Dear Kloey,

When you were born I cried. I don’t often cry and I very rarely cry when I am happy. Kloey, when you were placed in my arms one year ago something changed in my heart. I loved you so deeply and so passionately, that I knew we had a special bond. In the past year you have transformed this family, adding a fun new dynamic to our family. As a new born you were so easy going. You slept well. Nursed like a champ. And just sat and watched the world move around you. As you got older, your personality quickly began to emerge. You quickly started to show your fiesty side. You scream when you don’t get your way. You hit out of frustration. You shriek to get everyone’s attention. Lucky for me, you are easily distracted and recover quickly from your bumps and falls. And most recently, you have taught your daddy and me what it means to have a baby that is on the move and inquisitive!! You find danger in every room, you think it’s funny to stand up on unsturdy surfaces, and you go head first into every new situation. In the earlier days we thought you were going to be just a calm an easy going baby, similar to your sister. We thought this because you weren’t a crawling right away and  we thought that you were on the same path as Kayden-  to be a talker rather than a mover and shaker. We. Were. WRONG! Kloey, you are a talker that’s for sure, but you also keep this mommy on her toes as I run after you to make sure you are not plummeting down the stairs or pulling out the wall socket covers!! We have had an AMAZING first year together, Kloey, and we KNOW the next year is bound to bring many new adventures and bumps along the way!!

Here is a look back in the past year with you Miss Kloey

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KLOEY!! How old are you?!

31-May-2013 07:25

Kayden: Mommy, can you put my helmet on so I can ride my scooter?

Me: I’m working on dinner, Mommy can’t go outside to watch you ride your scooter.

Kayden: Mommy, can you put my helmet on so I can ride my scooter?

My child is PERSISTENT!!

Me: Mommy, is working on dinner, I can’t go outside right now!!!!!!!

I’m persistent too!

Me: Hey, why don’t you bring your scooter inside and ride it in the house?!

**Enter Scotty**

Scotty: Are you really telling her to bring the scooter IN the house?!

Me: Yes, Kayden can bring the scooter IN the house. Kloey, on the other hand, will NEVER be allowed to ride the scooter in the house!!

Kayden rode her scooter in and out of the family room and up and down the hallways for about 5 minutes before she became bored. Kloey, on the other hand, tipped the scooter over, examined the wheels, handle bars, and other parts for about 30 minutes while Mommy finished making dinner!! Kloey, my dear, will NEVER be allowed to ride things in the house. She has already nearly committed baby suicide by heading for the only two stairs in the house REPEATEDLY and the two big stairs on the patio REPEATEDLY. This child thinks it’s funny to find danger and test her Mommy daily!! Kloey, I will always win! Please STOP testing me! I know all of my fellow mommies are happy that I am FINALLY dealing with the challenges of a persistent, inquisitive baby!!! P.S. I still want her to walk!!!!!!!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mommy’s out there!!!!!!! For those of us blessed to have kiddos in our world, it is a great day to not only receive recognition for all we do, but to show respect for our own mothers. Having children has given me a whole new respect for my mom and every other woman out there who has raised a child. What we do is hard at times, but the rewards far outweigh any challenges. Hearing your child say ‘I love you’ makes it all worth it. So on Mother’s Day, I say thank you to my mom (Mimi) for being a wonderful example of what a mother’s role is. Thank you for all you do with and for my girls as well. This whole Mommy thing would be a lot harder without your help! And to my mother-in-law (Nam), thank you for raising a son who allows me to be my children’s mother all day every day! Thank you as well for the positive roll you have in my children’s lives!! I am a lucky mother to have such women in my life!!
