As I mentioned in the previous post, the doctor said that we could try giving Kayden a sippy cup with some water in it. She explained it as teaching her that not everything has taste. I’m not sure why she needs to know that not everything has taste, but I guess it’s a good thing. Maybe this way she won’t want juices and she’ll be content with water. Well the other morning we were being a bit fussy so I thought I would try it. She’s pretty easy to distract and I thought this would either really make her mad or it might make her forget she was upset. Much to my surprise, she really enjoyed it!! She doesn’t understand the sippy part yet, but she did enjoy gumming the tip. She was able to get some water and after a few seconds of confusion she continued gnawing on it!

Kayden just went for her 6 month check up and we have her new stats. They surprised us! Kayden weighs 18 pounds 1 ounce- 83rd percentile. As a reminder, this means Kayden is heavier than 83% of other babies her age. Wow! We have been noticing lately that her clothes are little tighter and her car seat straps are a little snug. I guess her number wasn’t a surprise, but her percentile was!! Her height is 26.25 inches- 64th percentile. She’s not as ‘tall’ as we thought. We always hear how big she is, now I guess we understand what they truly meant! Now get ready for the head! Kayden’s head circumference is 44 centimeters- 90th percentile! She definitely has her daddy’s head! Now I guess I’m not so surprised as to why she isn’t sitting by herself yet- holding up that head is hard! This, according to her doctor, is totally normal. The doctor also confirmed my suspicions.. Kayden is getting her first tooth!!! She loves to bite/gum my finger and last night I thought I felt something a little sharp. She has been drooling a little bit, but she hasn’t been too fussy or had any fevers. So far so good! I’m sure I just jinxed it! Kayden got two vaccines and did not like it one bit. I could tell from the screams I heard standing in the hallway! Now that Kayden is 6 months she will continue eating fruits and veggies, but we are going to begin to introduce proteins now! And she is also going to start taking water in a sippy cup, if she’s ready. So many new and fun things are coming our way! 🙂 All chubby jokes aside, we are so blessed that Kayden is healthy, happy, and developing normally. We love our little princess and are so thrilled with how much she has changed and grown!! 🙂

I swear this was NOT on purpose. Kayden and I dressed alike today! I don’t know if it was our matching outfits, but a lady at Lowes told me that my baby ‘totally looks like you’. I take that as the utmost compliment!!

Kayden is 6 months old now and she is doing so many things! Here is what’s going on in Kayden’s world:

– She weighs 17 pounds and it seems like she is eating ALL the time!

– She eats 4 bottles a day that ranges between 4-7 ounces per bottle.

– She eats rice cereal mixed with fruit for breakfast; veggies for lunch; and rice cereal for dinner.

– Kayden naps 2-3 times a day. The morning is a little less regimented, but she consistently takes a 2-2.5 hour nap every afternoon from 1:30-3:30/4:00.

– Kayden loves toys that make noise and light up!

– She is less interested in her soothie than in the past, however, she can pick up the soothie and put it in her mouth! I put it on her belly and she usually likes to chew on it, but sometimes she’ll stick it in her mouth.

– Kayden loves to put everything in her mouth! She likes to suck on her fingers, but she still isn’t a thumb sucker (sorry Nam!)

– She loves Baby Einstein… especially in the buff! One of our morning routines is to take off her PJs, but her in our bed, and turn on Baby Einstein. This gives me almost an hour to shower and get ready. This is a luxury that I really enjoy!

– She loves to blow raspberries! She usually does it when she is trying to be silly or when she wants to get mommy or daddy’s attention.

– Kayden has upgraded from a ‘baby bathtub’ to the big kid bath tub. I’m currently looking for a bath mat or something, but in the mean time she lays on a foam insert that goes in the tub. She loves to kick around and splash, although she gets upset when water gets in her eyes. What a diva!

-Kayden loves to eat her feet! She is so proud that she can reach her tootsies to her mouth! It’s so cute, but makes diaper changes a little bit of a challenge!

A lot has happened in our home in the past 6 months. I am so excited for the next 6!! We are ready for the crawling, babbling, and the development of her big personality!

I try to get out for a run on my days off of work. This has established a little bit of a routine for Kayden because she takes her morning nap during my run. I time it perfectly. We go right after her breakfast and it’s enough time for her to nap and then come home and be content watching Baby Einstein all before lunch. Today the housekeeper got here at 7:30 and I wanted to be showered and ready to go so that I could strategically stay out of her way. Well this meant no run, which upset Kayden. So rather than run, we did the same route but we walked. The weather is a bit brisk, but she enjoyed the stroll and took her 45 minute nap. She then had breakfast and now she is laying next to me watching Baby Einstein and blowing raspberries. Love my baby!

We take this very seriously around here! Baby Einstein has been around since Kayden was first born, but now that she is older she is actually watching it. She watches it while I take a shower and it actually holds her attention for about 45 minutes! Sometimes she falls asleep, which is great, but most of the time she just watches it and rolls around in the sheets. I do love that she watches Baby Einsten, but it’s really getting in the way of my soap opera- Days of Our Lives. If I turn her show off (yes, I have done that!) to put on my show she is less willing to just hang out. So for now, I am a little behind on my soap!:)
