On Wednesday Scotty, Kayden, and I headed to Palm Springs to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family. It’s an understatement to say that we were all looking forward to the get-away vacation. We were two hours away, but we all might as well have been on our own little island. It seemed like no one answered their cell phones or responded to emails. We all (literally) have an iPad and smart phone, but we managed to stay disconnected for 5 whole days! The boys went golfing and the girls went and got their nails done. I can’t wait until I can take my princess to get her nails done!! The weather was beautiful- we even enjoyed the spa every day. Thanks Mom and Dad for a great trip. We were all rejuevenated and now we’re ready to get back to reality! I am thankful that I have the next two days to recover and get Miss Kayden back into her routine!

Here are just a few of the highlights from our trip to Palm Springs!

Kayden was able to sort of participate in a Thanksgiving feast!

Here are some highlights of the family hanging out!

I have a picture of when I was younger sitting next to a turkey. This photo is well known in my family because of my red face and streaming tears. We were committed to capturing Kayden next to the turkey to see if she would carry on my legacy. Neither of us like taking our pic next to dinner!

Although Nam keeps helping Kayden along by putting her thumb in her mouth each time she visits, it just doesn’t look like Kayden is going to be a thumb sucker. She takes her soothie (pacifier) only if she is very tired and then that even falls out minutes into her going to sleep. Well, every once in a while we catch Kayden putting her fingers in her mouth. Of course, at 5 months it is natural that any and everything make its way into her mouth. Lately she just seems to favor her first two fingers. My younger brother use to suck the same two fingers, but upside down. If you can imagine- his first two fingers were in his mouth, but his palm was facing up. It didn’t look appetizing or comfortable! Either way, I caught Kayden following in her uncle Nicky’s footsteps when we were out shopping today.

This weekend was filled with lots of things in just two short days. Rain or shine, we Hatchers are on the move! Saturday morning we woke up (early) and Scotty put together some baby stuff. We enjoyed a rainy morning making breakfast and just spending quiet time together. Kayden sleeps through the night now so we all wake up rested and happy! On Saturday morning we headed up to Yorba Linda to celebrate Mimi’s birthday. We had a great day with everyone and then we all headed to dinner. In true Kayden fashion she was quiet and content until dinner arrived. Then she was passed from person to person until mommy was left rocking while everyone else ate. Luckily Grampy finished early so that he could walk around with her. I know he loves to whisk her away so I let him!

Sunday began wet, and what is the last thing you could imagine, wish for, or plan on doing on a rainy day? Let me answer that for you- car shopping!! This week I got a letter from Toyota promising to take my leased car in early and send me on my way with a brand new 4Runner with no money out of my pocket. Yeah sure! Since that letter arrived my husband has been researching the new 4Runner. Once he fixates, I’m done! He asked if we could go this weekend. Knowing it was going to rain I said sure….thinking, “There’s no way he’ll make me go look at cars with the baby in the rain!” Well he did!! We are now proud owners of a 2011 white 4Runner! It rained, so we waited in the car while Scotty did a test drive and then we all went in to negotiate. We didn’t do too bad, but word to the wise- those ‘friendly letters’ from the dealership LIE! 🙂

Today was a great day in the Hatcher Home! Today was my day off of work so I jam packed it with the important things! The day started with our cleaning lady being reinstated. She hasn’t been here in about 5 months. That’s right, I cleaned my own house for the first time in years when I had a new born. That sucked, so I brought her back! I had to be showered and changed because our next visitors would be here right when she was done. Ashley Furniture made a visit and dropped off all new furniture for our family room! An L-couch, big leather ottoman, and a comfy leather recliner for Scotty. We went for a chocolate brown, which is a huge difference from our light green. It’s definitely a new look for us!

After the house was clean (and then dirtied by the moving guys), Kayden and I lounged around the house and enjoyed the calmness. I have noticed in my days at home with just her that she has been falling asleep in our bed (on my side, of course) for a long time- upwards of 2 hours! I figured she liked to be snuggled under the covers and the smell of me just topped her off. My mom suggested I try putting her there for her afternoon naps. Our experience is that Kayden takes 30 minute naps ALL day long. I’d rather two good size naps, for obvious reasons. Anyway, I pulled the covers back and put her in the bed. I closed the windows, set up the Kayden cam, and let her hang. I should admit, I spent about 20 minutes with her before I just left! She cried a little bit, but I let her work it out and she slept for over an hour. Such a milestone for us today. 2 naps and no catnaps!

Then, Scotty got home a little early and we decided to feed her green beans for the first time! She really seemed to like it. So now our little princess is eating real food!! Such an exciting day!

When Mom’s away Mims will play!! Mimi has been so great and has been on duty all week with Miss Kayden. On Monday they just sort of hung out, took walks and worked all day. On Tuesday it was time to get out and play! I wish I would have taken a picture of what I walked in the house to. One of our couches was covered with baby clothes, blankets, and bibs. Mimi went nuts at the Carters store! Kayden already is the best dressed (girl) baby on the block (thanks to Mimi and Nam!), now she just has more of a variety! Mimi also bought Kayden her holiday dresses. I think it’s funny that I am more excited when my baby gets new clothes than when I do! I guess this is just how it is when you become a mommy!

Here are some pics Mimi sent to keep me in the loop of how their day was going :).

Kayden loves to hang with me when I’m getting ready for work. I prop her up on the pillow and we both enjoy my soap- Days of Our Lives!
