Monday was my first day back to work. I started crying Sunday night and it continued through my commute in to work. I held myself together all day and somehow managed not to get a speeding ticket on my way home. Knowing that my baby is in the hands of her grandmothers makes it so much easier. Kayden loves her Nam and her Mimi so I know she is having a fun-filled day while I am away. Unfortunately, the day I went back to work is the day Scotty left for a business trip. He left Monday morning and will be home Friday. So now I am a part-time working single mother. Ha! Today I have my second day of work and it’s my Friday. I am so lucky to be job-sharing with Maica- Eli’s mommy. She has set up the classroom so that all I have to do is show up. So far, I love the kids and look forward to establishing a routine at work and at home. I’m so lucky that my husband works so hard so that I can work part-time! Thanks Nam for watching Kayden yesterday. Here are some of the pics she sent me throughout the day that helped me get through it!

We love October in Southern California! We endured a crummy summer as far as weather- yes, it was great for my pregnant friends! But it’s been such a gloomy summer that we are finding ways to enjoy the weather with our 4 1/2 month old. Scotty has been so busy working 12 hour days during the week and was planning on working all day today. Kayden had taken her morning nap and was up and ready to play at noon. I knew Scotty needed to work, so I told him I was taking her and Kooper for a walk. Well as I was packing up he told he me that he was coming too! We packed up the diaper bag and decided to add Jinx to the mix. We went for a walk along the beach and stopped in at a restaurant for a refreshing drink. What an amazing way to spend a Saturday afternoon. I love my family!!

Yeah!!!! Kayden no longer needs to be swaddled! So our sleep pattern has leveled out. We go to bed at 8:00 and wake up at 2:00 for a feeding and then wake up to face the day between 6:30 and 7:00. This is a great pattern because it’s consistent and I have mastered the feeding to just at 30 minutes. Some days she wakes up at 3 and some days she even wakes up at 4. As she’s getting older I am thinking that the mid-night feeding isn’t really a necessity, but a snack! Anyway about three nights ago Kayden busted out of her miracle swaddle! She had been busting out of her normal swaddle for a while, so we upgraded to the miracle swaddle, which was helping her sleep 7 hours. About 3 nights ago I went in for the 2 o’clock feeding and she busted out!! Now if you could see the swaddle you would be as impressed as me. There are three layers that hold her arms down and that’s exactly what was free when I went in to get her- her arms! Wow, she was telling me (screaming at me!) that she was done being swaddled! From that night on she hasn’t been swaddled and she’s woken up at 3:30 or 4:00 every morning! My baby is growing up so fast!

Here is what happens when Nam is left Nam-sitting! This is now one of my favorite pics!

So we decided that it was time for Kayden to have some rice cereal last night because she was breast feeding for 30 minutes and sucked down two 8 ounce bottles in record time. My baby was hungry!! Not to mention she was mouthing every time I was eating- which, yes it was frequently because I am at home and the darn cupboards are full of my favorite things! This is why it’s dangerous to be a stay-at-home mom. I do the shopping and therefore buy what I like and then I eat it all. Okay, so this isn’t about me! After Scotty and I went to dinner with Nam we came home and fed Kayden her first “food.” Rice cereal can go in the bottle or be spoon fed. We figured since it was her first food other than mom juice or formula, we might as well spoon feed it to her. Surprisingly, she picked up on the whole spoon-to-mouth thing pretty quickly! She had fun, we made a mess, and she was a happy girl. For the record, she still woke up at 2:30 for a mid-night snack! She also busted out of her swaddle (which is called a miracle blanket because the arms are strapped down three times!). So anywas here’s Kayden enjoying her first taste of food:

Scotty and I had fun taking turns feeding her!

Today I decided to put some rice cereal in her bottle because yesterday she was clearly very hungry during the day. Nam was on duty so she fed her while I took a shower. Kayden took 8 ounces of formula with rice cereal mixed in!! I couldn’t believe it. I think she’s going through a growth spurt! She is now napping in her crib listening to a little Baby Einstein while I watch her on the iPad. Technology is great!
