9 Months Pregnant!

I have made it to the final month of pregnancy!! I am 36 weeks pregnant and at my last appointment my doctor wasn’t convinced that the baby had flipped to a head down position, so she ordered an ultrasound. Scotty and I were excited because we didn’t get a late ultrasound with Kayden, so we were excited to see what our baby looks like fully developed. We had our ultrasound this morning and it turns out she wasn’t cooperating again and we didn’t get but a glimpse of a profile shot (I’ll be honest, I didn’t catch the glimpse!). The ultrasound tech did measurements of the important things and confirmed that baby girl has indeed flipped. Like Kayden, I am carrying the baby very low, and likely that is why the doctor wasn’t able to feel her head at my last appointment. The baby has a strong heart beat and everything is measuring on track. My doctor offered to check to see if I was dilated and I figured why not! Turns out I am 1 centimeter dilated and 50% effaced. These were the two measurements I got two days before Kayden was born. Of course, I can go all the way to term with these measurements (or even more dilated!), but it’s still kind of exciting to know that the process is moving forward. Here’s hoping Little MIss stays nice and cozy inside mommy for at least another week or two… I still have nesting to do!!

New Chapter

Today was officially my last day of teaching. I’m not sure how I feel about this. Being the planner that I am, I have known for about six months that my last day would be May 8. So why am I not more excited, prepared, ready, or relaxed about the whole thing? I had a challenging class this year and have always thought that I’d be doing a dance on my last walk to the car. Today, not unlike most others, was a challenging day behavior-wise so you’d think that I’d hit the door when the bell rang. I found myself talking to teachers I don’t usually talk to, hanging around with the kids a little longer when they were waiting for their parents, and checking my email just one more time before I shut down for the night. While this year was met with challenges, it was one that taught me a lot. Although the kiddos could be stinkers at ~~most~~ times, they each had something unique that I will probably remember for a long time. What a mixed bag we had!! Maica was a wonderful partner both in the classroom and with baby duty each week. I truly could not have gotten through this year without our weekly conversations about what was going in in the classroom. What is it they say, misery loves company?! So as I walked to my car with my arms filled with flowers and a special card from the kids, I realized that this is it. I’m done. When you meet me and ask me what I do, I’ll say ‘I’m a stay at home mom’. Wow, that feels weird! I am prepared for this transition to be a little rocky as I find my nitch and figure out just how to be “only” a mom. I have the most supportive husband who constantly reminds me that this isn’t my decision, but it is our decision. He reminds me that this is the best thing for our kids and that no one else can do what I do. So while I adjust to my new role in life, I have an amazing support system of my husband and mother/mother-in-law reminding me that this is going to be the best time of my life. Teaching has been good to me, but now I think I’m ready to find my fulfillment in teaching my children to be smart, loving, well-adjusted little girls.

I think I’ll enjoy the next few weeks practicing my new skills on this little stinker!

Stop and Smell the Roses

As my time dwindles down as I prepare for our new arrival, I am trying to remember to stop and smell the roses. I feel like I am running in circles and can’t seem to keep up with life. I am finishing up my last few days of work and trying to make sure that I leave no unanswered questions, no unfinished paper work, and no burdens on my friend and job-share partner, Maica. The house is in complete disarray with each room having it’s own issues. The laundry room is awaiting the new washer and dryer- which means I haven’t done laundry in about a week! Kayden’s room is still taped up because Scotty wants to add just one more coat of pink! Our bedroom is housing some of Kayden’s things that were removed due to painting as well as some baby items- but none of which is set up!! Scotty’s office has become a storage unit for all of the crap we had to take out of the other rooms. The garage is under construction to make Scotty’s new office. The kitchen and family room, the primary rooms in my life, are the only ones that have some sanity. I am starting to feel the pressure of a new baby entering into this chaos!! So while I’d love to just stop and smell the roses, it feels like there just isn’t any time. I keep saying tomorrow, or this weekend, or next week. Once work has ended I think I’ll really find the time to just relax and prepare for baby! At the end of the day life will keep moving forward, maybe I’ll take a play from Kayden’s book and stop and smell EVERY flower in the yard…. several times!

New Home

Scotty and I aren’t the only ones who got a new house!!

Thanks Nam and Papa for Kayden’s play house! She absolutely LOVES it! She frequently asks me to go in with her, but in my current state I am pretty sure there is a 50-50 chance that if I go in, I won’t be able to get out!! This little princess loves her new castle! Thank you!!

Settling In

After what seems like forever, we are all moved in to our new house!! We couldn’t be happier with the home, the yard, or the location. The dogs are snoring louder than ever and Kayden’s giggles have turned to full on shrieks of excitement as she chases her doggies around the yard! It really is the sweetest thing to see her enjoying all of the perks that come with a home. As with any change, there comes a period of adjustment. Kayden still hasn’t taken a nap here. The only thing I can think to explain this is that it’s a new place and it’s not quite hers yet. She’s in a blue room with black doors and nearly black floors. It’s not like her yellow room with flower decals on plush carpet! We are planning on painting this weekend (right Grampy?! ) and we’ll eventually get her a nice big fluffy rug to bring together her new room. Another new adjustment we are making is to boo-boos! Kayden’s shins are all black and blue from climbing up and down the stairs in the backyard. She also got a nice big bruise at her forehead today because as she was running after the dogs she tripped on the driveway and bumped her head. This was a rather traumatic experience, however, it didn’t stop her for long! With the yard and all the comes with it, we are lucky that she is still sleeping 11 hours at night. Now Mommy just needs to lay down the law and get naps back on track!!

Easter EGGstravaganza

Easter started on Saturday for our family. We headed up to Yorba Linda to spend the day with my family. The day consisted of several boat rides for Kayden, an Easter egg hunt, dying Easter eggs, and lots of food in between! There was some traffic on the way up so Kayden napped in the car. I knew that even though it was a short nap, it was a good thing because there was no way she would want to sleep once we got there! She held up really well and had a great time with the family!

On Sunday we woke up to see that the Easter Bunny came to visit us!! He laid out an eggstravagant trail that didn’t quite lead anywhere in particular, but the Easter Bunny did leave a basket for Kayden. She got a pretty dress, a laptop, and more candy than she has ever seen before! Kayden ate more candy on Easter than she has (or will EVER) eat in her lifetime! After Easter breakfast we headed out for a drive and went to a park. Later in the day Auntie Kelly and the boys (cousins Jake and Ian) came over for dinner. Some of our neighbors invited us over for an Easter egg hunt in the common area. Kayden managed to find yet more candy… right before dinner! She was a little late to the party, but all of the kids shared their stash with her! Luckily bed time came before the sugar crash!!

Mr. Easter Bunny

Dear Mr. Easter Bunny,

When I saw you walking in the mall this morning i waved to you and said ‘Hi Bunny!” I quickly noticed that you and I were walking to the same place. My mom stopped in line with a bunch of other kids and I just LOVE to watch other kids play! My mom said I was going to go sit on your lap. I told her to put my seat belt on! She asked if she could hold me, I said “No! Seat belt on!” As we got closer to you my mom told me I was going to give you a high five. That sounded like fun so I let her take my seat belt off and hold me. But Mr. Easter Bunny as she walked me closer to you I got a little scared and I clenched my legs around my mommy’s bulging belly and squeezed her and yelled “NO!” She still put me on your lap- yeah, that wasn’t very nice! So Mr. Easter Bunny I am sorry that I yelled, kicked, screamed, and made a spectacle of you and my mother this morning. Please, please still come to my house on Sunday and bring me some treats. I promise I will ~~not~~ be braver next year!

My Little BFF

I just love this picture! Kayden is my little BFF who follows me everywhere, wants what I have, and just seems to need me all the time. At times it can feel a little overwhelming, but when I hear her say “Mommy play with you” (we’ll work on her pronouns soon! She means play with ‘me’), it just tugs at my heart strings. I always stop what I am doing to sit down and play with her. There is no love like the love of your child. Hearing her say I love you Mommy and sing our little song: “I love you. I do, I do, I do. A bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck” as she giggles, knowing that I am on my way over to tickle her belly, is the absolute highlight of my day. As I wind down my job and I look forward to meeting my second daughter, I find my time with Kayden to truly be priceless. I know there will be no other time where my day solely revolves around her and her needs alone. She will soon have to share her BFF with her ‘baby sister’ as she so sweetly has learned to say. I want each day I have with her to be special and I want her to feel like the center of my world for as long as possible. I am so excited for her to meet her sister because I just know she is going to be such a great nurturer!! I’ve already taught her how to feed a baby (aka Elmo) and then burp him. Next week’s lesson will be changing diapers!

We’re Moving!!!!

The time has come for the Hatchers to move on up! With the impending arrival of our second child, we decided that it’s time to expand our dwellings. I have to say though, we have absolutely loved living in Nam and Papa’s beach condo! With Kayden on the move and wanting nothing more than to be outside, we figured we’d try to find that perfect little house with a backyard. After a lot of researching and stalking different real estate listings, Scotty found us the perfect home! We will be renting a three bedroom home in South Oceanside and we couldn’t be more excited! The house was recently remolded and has a beautiful backyard that just puts the icing on the cake. We move in April 15, which is just around the corner!!
