I don’t usually post on the weekends, but today has been exceptionally slow, so here I am. Today Scotty spent the entire day working on homework. I went grocery shopping, caught up on some TV, and read my book that I just can’t seem to get through- Eclipse (third book in the Twilight series). The weather started out perfect- sunny, clear, and warm. By mid-afternoon the haze rolled in and just did not motivate me to do anything productive. So, I decided to make a nice dinner- chicken kabobs and mom’s famous rice pilaf. We’ll spend the rest of the quiet evening at home watching Dexter Season 3 and perhaps catching up on this season’s The Office.

Moral of the Blog- Sometimes spending the day relaxing is just what you need to revamp from a long week!

Oceanside can’t seem to figure out if it wants to rain or if it wants to be hot. Tuesday and Wednesday were promised to be torrential down pour for us here in southern California. In fact, I believe it sprinkled for about 30 minutes in the early morning- Just enough to mess up Scotty’s freshly waxed car. Yes, my husband decided to get his car washed, waxed, shampooed, and armoraled the day before we were all warned the rain was coming. He figured that if it rained hard it wouldn’t matter with a fresh wax- the water would just roll off. He would have been right, however it never really ‘rained’. So now there are dots every where! Anyway, today was a beautiful day. Mid-seventies, no clouds, no wind, no problems! I keep having hot flashes though because I dress for the cold in the morning and by the time recess comes it’s hot out. I won’t complain though because I am sure somewhere on the east coast (Virginia perhaps) the trees and becoming bare and the sun is nothing but a memory.

Moral of the Blog entry- There’s never a reason to complain about California weather.

Does a man ever out grow toys? I love that my husband loves technology. It helps when my computer freezes, my phone doesn’t sync with my computer, and when the T.V. doesn’t turn on. Yes, I love his infinite techie knowledge. What I don’t love, however, is the cost behind his passion. I know he needs the newest toys so that he can continue to be a developer for Google, Mac, and whoever else. Not only does he need the newest toys, but he needs the newest toys FIRST. This means no dropped prices for us. We pay top dollar for all of his trinkets. They say some things never change…. I’m pretty sure this is one of those things.

Moral of the Blog- It takes money to make money…. hoping his spending will find us rich one day!!

Today is Friday. Fridays are supposed to be the best day of the work week and consequently a good day as we look forward to the next two days off. At 9:00 this morning I see a missed call and voicemail on my phone from an 800 number. Since I am with kids from 8:20 until 12:00, I had no time to investigate the unknown call. At lunch I run and heat up my lunch and sit down to catch up on some paperwork. I grab my phone to check for unread email. I instantly see the lingering voicemail that is patiently waiting for my attention. I call into the voicemail and hear that it’s ADT- our alarm company. Instant panic! I immediately call back because I can’t decipher from the message if there is an emergency or if they are trying to renew my contract. I call the company back and get immediately placed with a person because I chose the option ‘your alarm is currently going off’. The lady is very calm and tells me that my fire alarm is going off and either there is a fire or the unit is low on batteries. I hang up on the lady, hit the door, and mad dash home! Well, I work 1.5 miles from home so I was on the scene in 4 minutes flat. I rush in the door and frantically rush two flights of stairs to find a calm house, no fire, and starving pugs- what’s wrong?! I climb back down the stairs and actually look at the alarm unit to see that it says “low-bat” which obviously means the house was never on fire and the fire detecter is simply out of batteries. I call ADT and tell them to call off the armed forces and head back to work. I was back on campus within 10 minutes. My lunch was waiting on my desk, still warm. I was able to get a little work in and prepare for my afternoon meeting. While the event was highly dramatic, I handled things in record time and it barely put a snag in my day.

Moral of Post: When the alarm company calls and offers that your house is either up in flames or experiencing a battery short, it always pays to be proactive and get yo butt home!

With the current flu epidemic we decided that our pugs needed full protection. Swine Flu has been an monster captivating our current school system. Jinx is a very ‘social’ dog and therefore she needs to be protected at all times! I know what you are all saying: social, are you kidding?! I didn’t say her social skills were appropriate, I simply said she was social! We fitted Jinx with a mask that isn’t the best fit for her (flat) nose, but seems to be working for the time being. Kooper has also been fitted for his mask and he unfortunately thinks he can’t breathe with it on. We are still working with him and helping him feel comfortable with his newest accessory! In helping him feel confident with his mask, Scotty has volunteered to wear one full time as well. It is quite comical in the Hatcher home!

Moral of the Blog: Health is not always pretty.
