Kayden seems to be figuring out that night time is for sleeping. The past two nights she has woken up 3 times in the night to feed. She wakes up every two hours and stays up for about an hour by the time she gets a new diaper, eats, and gets rocked back to sleep. So even though it’s just three times, it sure puts a wrench in my nighttime sleep. I’m hoping Scotty is enjoying the sleep because once it’s the weekend he takes the nighttime shifts! I have also been lucky because Jill has come over each morning to babysit while I get my last two or three hour stretch of uninterrupted sleep. This has been very helpful, but will soon end when Jill goes back to Virginia next week. It’s nice to have the help of the grandmas. Jill does morning and my mom does Tuesday/Thursday day shift. This has been helpful as well since Miss Kayden really prefers to be held. I do love holding her, but sometimes it’s nice to pass her off to do the little things… like go to the bathroom. :o) Kayden and I are figuring each other out and learning how to make each other happy. She is such an easy baby and I love her for it!

Today Kayden and I went to her two week check up. It’s hard to believe that she has been here two weeks. Wait, I take that back, it feels like a lot longer! Maybe because I have seen every hour of those two weeks tick by on the clock. Kayden is a great baby, that we all agree on, but she must learn some time soon about sleeping when the sun goes down. We discussed this issue with the doctor and she said that we should not be letting her sleep longer than 3 hours during the day. With a slight chuckle, I asked how she proposed I keep the baby awake. During the day she sleeps and she sleeps hard. Must be all the activity at night! Anyway, the doctor says to take her clothes off and to put a cold cloth on her. We tried that this evening. It didn’t work. At the doctor’s appointment we did a weight and height check as well. She now weighs 6 pounds and 12 ounces. They hope to see the baby regain the weight they lost after birth at this appointment. Kayden started at 6 pounds and 1 ounces so she is making great weight gain! I can’t help but take some credit for this! At birth she was 19 inches and today she is 21 1/2 inches. So she is growing in all the right places!

We are so blessed to have a healthy baby who has a great temperament. She is so amazing and we are so thankful for her!

Sleep… what is sleep? We only speak in naps here! Everyone tells you to be prepared for no sleep with a newborn. They almost tell you this with a laugh it seems. Even though we have been hearing about no sleep since the day we announced our pregnancy, nothing could truly prepare us for the lack of real sleep once she arrived. Kayden is feeding every two hours so between feedings I get a whole hour to sleep. Just enough time to refill the milk ducts and do it all over again. Kayden is an awesome sleeper during the day. As soon as night falls the length of her naps decreases significantly and she becomes very alert. She also needs to eat more often, which means I can’t get enough of the good sleep at night. Lucky for me, I fall asleep very easily and I get the whole hour of REM sleep. Miss Kayden is a sleeping beauty as long as the sun is up. Come night fall, she is a new baby who is ready to party! I keep asking people when I can expect her to sleep longer… all I get is laughter. Wondering what I should make of that?!
