Yesterday my iPad 3G came in the mail. According to my husband I needed to sell my iPad and get the 3G version so that I could have the Internet on the go. Of course I ‘need’ this. Yesterday I also got my new iPhone 4. Through these two Apple devices and my laptop and iMac I have no excuses (according to Scotty) to keep this site current. So some days we’ll post pictures and some days I will add blogs.

Kayden is 3 weeks old and doing the same things she has been doing since she got here- eat, sleep, poop, and do it all over again! I know she is getting bigger because she is heavier and she is eating all of the time! She eats every two to three hours and she takes in a lot each time. She’s a hungry girl!! She still sleeps a lot (except at night) and has a great temperament. Her belly button is closed now she she is ready for an official bath. Scotty said she smelled like spoiled milk so I gave her sponge bath this morning. I know Scotty wants to be able to document her first bath time fun. After giving her a handful of sponge baths, I can imagine that a real bath is going to be anything but ‘fun’!

Kayden reached a milestone yesterday. She cried real tears! I know I’m not supposed to be happy when my baby cries, but I was so excited to see that her eyes were filled with water and her little blond lashes were wet. We had just gotten home from grocery shopping when it happened. She was in her car seat for probably an hour and a half to two hours. Kayden likes to stretch and move freely so she was getting a little cranky on our way home. Well when we got home we had to unload and put things away. I took her out of her car seat to let her stretch and then I put her in her swing. She normally loves her swing, but not this time. I let her whine a little bit as I put the first things away and then all of a sudden she began to cry very hard and her face went beat red. That I could not stand. I went to pick her up and that’s when I saw it… tears!! Immediately upon being picked up she relaxed and the tears dried. Ahh my daughter the drama queen!

Today is finally Friday. After a near melt down last night because the lack of sleep is catching up to me, I look forward to a good night’s sleep tonight. I have been pumping all day so that Scotty can take the night shifts. I know this sounds a little unfair, but I have been taking every shift since Sunday night. I still have to wake up at least every three hours to pump so that I don’t lose my milk flow. Now, you might say that since I have to wake up anyway that I might as well just feed her rather than pump (and make Scotty get up too). But the process is so much more than that. We start with a diaper change, then we feed, then we swaddle, then we rock back to sleep. This is roughly an hour long process. Scotty so generously has volunteered to take tonight so that I can get some real sleep. I am looking very much to it! Thanks Scotty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kayden seems to be figuring out that night time is for sleeping. The past two nights she has woken up 3 times in the night to feed. She wakes up every two hours and stays up for about an hour by the time she gets a new diaper, eats, and gets rocked back to sleep. So even though it’s just three times, it sure puts a wrench in my nighttime sleep. I’m hoping Scotty is enjoying the sleep because once it’s the weekend he takes the nighttime shifts! I have also been lucky because Jill has come over each morning to babysit while I get my last two or three hour stretch of uninterrupted sleep. This has been very helpful, but will soon end when Jill goes back to Virginia next week. It’s nice to have the help of the grandmas. Jill does morning and my mom does Tuesday/Thursday day shift. This has been helpful as well since Miss Kayden really prefers to be held. I do love holding her, but sometimes it’s nice to pass her off to do the little things… like go to the bathroom. :o) Kayden and I are figuring each other out and learning how to make each other happy. She is such an easy baby and I love her for it!

Today Kayden and I went to her two week check up. It’s hard to believe that she has been here two weeks. Wait, I take that back, it feels like a lot longer! Maybe because I have seen every hour of those two weeks tick by on the clock. Kayden is a great baby, that we all agree on, but she must learn some time soon about sleeping when the sun goes down. We discussed this issue with the doctor and she said that we should not be letting her sleep longer than 3 hours during the day. With a slight chuckle, I asked how she proposed I keep the baby awake. During the day she sleeps and she sleeps hard. Must be all the activity at night! Anyway, the doctor says to take her clothes off and to put a cold cloth on her. We tried that this evening. It didn’t work. At the doctor’s appointment we did a weight and height check as well. She now weighs 6 pounds and 12 ounces. They hope to see the baby regain the weight they lost after birth at this appointment. Kayden started at 6 pounds and 1 ounces so she is making great weight gain! I can’t help but take some credit for this! At birth she was 19 inches and today she is 21 1/2 inches. So she is growing in all the right places!

We are so blessed to have a healthy baby who has a great temperament. She is so amazing and we are so thankful for her!
